'FACTS'

Nuclear and Radiological preparedness and response is the contingency planning that we have in place in case of a radiological or nuclear accidents or incident that could cause radioactive contamination and exposure to radiation.
Nuclear and radiological preparedness and response in Norway is organised around the Crisis Committee for Nuclear Preparedness.
The Crisis Committee is responsible for and authorised to decide and effectuate measures to reduce the impact of a nuclear accident.
DSA is a national and international notification point for all types of radiological and nuclear event.
If a nuclear accident affects you, there are various steps you can take to protect yourself.

What can I do?

Radioactive contamination and radiation can cause damage to health. If a nuclear incident affects us, the Crisis Committee for Nuclear Preparedness will provide advice or instructions on how we can protect ourselves.

DSA is continuing to follow the situation in Ukraine closely. We are now especially following the situation at Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

Nuclear and Radiological Preparedness in Norway

Nuclear preparedness in Norway is organised around the Crisis Committee for Nuclear and Radiological Preparedness. The Crisis Committee consists of representatives from central authorities with a special responsibility in dealing with a radiological and nuclear incident.

Taking iodine tablets in the event of a nuclear accident

Under 40 years of age, pregnant, breast-feeding or have children living at home? If so, we recommend that you store iodine tablets at home. These tablets can provide protection against radioactive iodine in the event of a nuclear accident and should only be taken on the advice of the public authorities.

What do we do at the DSA?

The DSA is the Competent Authority thats ensures proper radiological and nuclear emergency preparedness and response in Norway.

Threat level

DSA has been appointed by the Norwegian government to ensure preparedness for six different scenarios.

The British nuclear facility Sellafield and its possible consequences for Norway

On a general basis, Norway is concerned about potential accidents and emissions from facilities in all areas that could have consequences for Norwegian territories. In the context of the article in the Guardian, it is a local release that cannot have consequences for Norway.

Annual meeting between Norwegian and Ukrainian safety authorities

An annual meeting to review the cooperation between Norwegian and Ukranian nuclear safety authorities was carried out in Norway this week. The meeting also included participants from French and Finnish authorities.
